Hello everyone, my name is Daniel Bodkin from CSMi. I’m a DPT/ATC and I’ve created much of the educational content for the HUMAC NORM Isokinetic System,

Today I have big news to announce! I will be opening a brick-and-mortar Physical Therapy clinic which has been a dream of mine for many years. Now that my children are getting older (5 and 6) I felt it was time for me to get back into the clinical world again but I wanted to be the one making the decisions.

So, over the next few months, I’m going to share with you all the process and experience of getting started in opening a practice.

This month, I want to just talk about my business concept because it’s a little non-traditional. First off, I’ve decided to not work with and accept insurance. It’s unfortunate, but since I started practicing in 2009, I have only seen reimbursements go down and since I want to have this practice for the next 20-25 years, I didn’t want 2024 to be the year I was paid the most for my work. In opening an out-of-network clinic, I decided to also hire a PT business coach to help me along the way which I can go into more detail in another post.

Another non-traditional aspect of my business model is that I want to mainly serve as a testing center for the north Atlanta region. Aside from marketing directly to sports leagues and clubs, my main marketing focus will be on all the other local PT clinics. In a perfect scenario, every neighborhood clinic would be able to provide isokinetic testing for their patients on-site but in my research, I found that there is only one older machine located in my entire area. So, I saw an opportunity to reach out to all of the local clinics to provide testing services for them.

Aside from providing testing for patients while they are completing their traditional rehab elsewhere, I want them to be able to continue their care once their insurance benefits expire. Therefore, I will also be providing strength and conditioning services to fill the gap between discharge and return-to-sport. We all know that the final phases of rehab are where most athletes can really struggle unless they have a trained professional guiding them through.

This is an exciting endeavor that I’ve decided to undertake, but without risk, there can be no reward.

I will be keeping you updated on the various steps I’ve taken!
